Searching the Explorer

Search the JustRanks database by keyword, by niche or by ASIN. Every search shows the whole first page of results with its history, and can be saved as a market.

The Explorer is where JustRanks starts. It searches the database of captured Amazon.com search results and shows the answer as one market: every product on the first page of your keywords, with its numbers over the period you picked.

Searching by keyword

Type a keyword and press Enter; it becomes a chip. Add more the same way, or paste a list: commas, line breaks, tabs and semicolons separate keywords. A search holds up to 100 keywords and runs by itself a moment after you stop typing.

Suggestions appear as you type, drawn from the keywords in the database. The dots next to a suggestion show its search demand, from low to very high.

Load niche. Below the suggestions, the Explorer offers matching niches: Amazon Best Sellers categories with their keywords. One click adds a niche's keywords to your search. It is the fastest way to see a whole category rather than only the terms you happened to think of.

A keyword the database does not have yet is marked on its chip, and you can add it. See Keywords that aren't in the database yet.

Searching by ASIN

Switch the search bar to ASIN and enter a child ASIN. The Explorer loads every keyword in the database on which that product appeared on page 1 during the last 30 days, and marks the product as yours. It is the quickest way to find the market a product actually competes in, including keywords you would not have guessed.

The product may also rank on keywords that are not in the database yet. Those cannot appear in the list.

Working with the keyword chips

  • Click a chip to look at that keyword alone; click it again to bring all keywords back. Select all and Clear switch every chip on or off.
  • Weights. Every chip carries a tier (Core, Important, Standard or Minor) that decides how much it counts in the averages. The Explorer suggests the tiers; see Keyword tiers and weights.
  • Your product. Once you have marked a product as yours, a crossed-out eye on a chip means your product was not on page 1 for that keyword in the selected period.

The period

A search opens on the last 30 days. The date picker offers the last 7, 14, 30 or 90 days or a custom range, and every change shown is measured against the period of the same length right before it.

What you see

The results come as Cards, Table or Movement, with filters, a head-to-head comparison and a drilldown for every product. See The results view, Movement and head-to-head and One product in depth.

Keeping a search

Every search is part of the page address, so you can bookmark it or send it to a colleague. To keep it properly (captured every day and listed in your sidebar) choose Save as market. See What a market is.

The command palette (⌘K on a Mac, Ctrl K on Windows) starts a search or looks up an ASIN from anywhere in JustRanks.
